Mosquitoes

Mosquitoes are active in the rainy months and transmit serious diseases including Dengue fever. Our technicians identify breeding grounds, eliminate them and put ongoing prevention in place so you can enjoy your spaces.

How mosquitoes are treated

We begin with a comprehensive survey to identify breeding sites and areas of high activity, followed by an on-site review of the local ecosystem and water sources.

From there we build an integrated programme - source reduction, habitat modification, larvicide and adult control - and apply targeted treatments chosen to minimise environmental impact.

Good to know

Mosquitoes: the facts

Diseases they carry

  • In Tanzania and the wider region, mosquitoes transmit malaria, dengue, chikungunya and Zika.
  • Chikungunya was first identified in southern Tanzania in 1952 - its name comes from the Kimakonde word for “that which bends up,” describing the severe joint pain it causes.
  • Aedes mosquitoes, which spread dengue, chikungunya and Zika, bite mainly during daylight hours.

Where they breed

  • Mosquitoes lay their eggs in containers of standing water - tyres, cans, buckets, blocked gutters and water-storage jugs.
  • Removing standing water and keeping stored water covered is one of the most effective ways to reduce breeding around your property.
